Football Club Rankings 12-10-12

The Group Stages of the Champions and Europa Leagues are over, and teams are making their pushes to be winter champions in their domestic league. There has been a lot to talk in world football and for the first time ever only one team from England is ranked in the world’s top ten. Also this week the FIFA Club World Cup is taking place and that begs the question, can a team from outside of Europe rank in the top ten.  The answer is yes, but you’ll have to check back next week to see if it happens. One thing this season has is a lot of teams fighting for a place in the rankings, it seems that each week almost ten clubs just miss the rankings. Finally don’t forget to leave you comments and like us on Facebook.

Just Missed: Porto, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen, Malaga

10. Shakhtar Donetsk
A home loss to Juventus, has Shakhtar on the verge of dropping out of the rankings for the first time in nine weeks. (9-8)

9. Inter Milan
A big home win over Napoli has Inter on the rise again. It will be interesting to see if they can mount a challenge in the group stage of the Europa League. (nr)

8. PSG
PSG emerge on top of their UCL Group, and have a massive showdown against Lyon on Sunday in our match of the week. (nr)

7. Lyon
Lyon continue to be on impressive form, they recorded the highest point total (16) of any club in the Europa League group stage. (10-2)

6. Dortmund
A rare home loss to Wolfsburg has them 14 points behind Bayern, and probably only focusing on Europe this season. (6-5)

5. Real Madrid
Four straight wins has Real look to move up the rankings, and after finishing second in their UCL group, they’ll be the one team no group winner will want to meet. (5-14)

4. Manchester United
United will enjoy their big road win at Manchester City, and will await to see who they’ll face in the next round of the Champions League. (4-14)

3. Juventus
You have to give Juventus a chance at reaching the Champions League Final, they are virtually unbeatable at home, and their road confidence should be higher after getting a rare win at Shakhtar. (3-15)

2. Bayern Munich
We gave Bayern a good look for the top spot, but despite a huge league lead in the Bundesliga, the German remain in their usual second position. (2-15)

1. Barcelona
Barcelona despite a meaningless UCL draw, are ranked #1 in the world for the 4th straight week. Messi is healthy and pouring in the goals, there is plenty to cheer about Barcelona.  (1-15-4)

Match of the Upcoming Week: 12/16 – #8 PSG v. #7 Lyon

The (numbers) are the previous week’s rank, followed by consecutive weeks ranked. The #1 team has a third number indicating weeks in the top spot.
